Wow! I absolutely love it! The Vampire's Fake Fiancee is the fifth release in the delightfully entertaining and superbly written Nocturne Falls Series by Kristen Painter, and it is absolutely delicious. The series is a paranormal romance based on all manner of supernatural beings who live and work among humans in a town named Nocturne Falls where it's Halloween every day of the year. And they celebrate it big time since it's the town's main source of income. How could you not love it with names like The Scream Shop, Hallowed Bean, Howlers, The Poison Apple, Illusions, Insomnia, Ever After, Mummy's Diner and The Black Rose D & B (*snicker* a Dead and Breakfast rather than a Bed and Breakfast *giggle*), and that's only a few of the establishments in this wonderful town Painter has created for us. And since this story takes place in January, the town just finished celebrating New Scare's Eve instead of New Year's Eve. (*snort*) This woman's talent and imagination are just off the charts! She's bloody brilliant! And did I mention it's located in Georgia. Oh yes, and I live in Georgia which makes me love it even more, not that I need another reason because there are plenty of reasons to love this book solely on its own merit. The story is exceptionally well crafted, well executed, well edited and well developed. The characters are engaging, endearing and outrageously, laugh-at-loud funny. It's sweet, cute, exciting, imaginative, humorous and romantic with just the right amount of danger, intrigue and suspense. And of course, it wouldn't be complete without a little dollop of angst. I first became hooked on Kristen Painter's work when I read The Vampire's Mail Order Bride which was the first release in the Nocturne Falls Series and the rest, as they say, is history. I was totally addicted for life! This is a standalone novel and I feel I must warn you, it does include a lovely happy ending. I don't want to give anything away but I will say that it does include vampires, valkyries, witches, werewolves, were-panthers, gargoyles, fae and all manner of creatures we all know and love, including an irresistibly cute kitten named Duncan and a very meddlesome vampiress grandmother. I also must caution you - it does contain a lovely, courageous but very shy heroine who just happens to be a librarian, chocolate lover and a valkyrie. Yep, a sword wielding, shield maiden valkyrie! Oh my Odin! It also includes a handsome, wealthy and very reclusive male vampire hero who already has one wife too many (kinda, sorta - technically, but they've been separated for 300 years) but is determined to never fall in love again. And last but not least, a very selfish, completely spoiled and totally evil, not-quite-wife, vampiress villain who returns to Nocturne Falls under the premise of wanting to reclaim her estranged husband and rekindle their...uh...non-existent relationship. Hmm....I do believe I smell a rat! So don't say I didn't warn you, because when the quiet, reserved Tessa Blythe comes to Nocturne Falls to apply for the position of Dean of Library Studies at Harmswood Academy, she proves to the brusque, stubborn Sebastian Effingham that first impressions can be quite deceiving. Sebastian soon learns you should never judge a book by its cover or by her sword. Let's just say that the little mouse has claws! Sparks fly, chocolate is served and Nocturne Falls may never be the same again. The very boring and uptight Sebastian never even knew what hit him! Oh my! Did I say I loved it? Well, I may have mentioned it, but just in case, I love it! I'm ready for Book Six in this enchanting series. Once you start reading this book, you simply cannot put it down. This book does NOT contain profanity nor explicit sex but it is just dreamy! I have been patiently waiting for Sebastian's story and Kristen did not disappoint! It was worth the wait! Now, Kristen Painter, it's time for Julian's story! Fabulous entertainment and an awesome read!!!

I received an ARC from the author/publisher for an honest review. There are minor spoilers (most of what you find in chapter 1) found in the review.

When Librarian Extraordinary and Valkyrie turned pacifist, Tessa Blythe, is talked into moving to Nocturne Falls by her sister Deputy Blythe, little does she know that her life is about to change in an every book-geek-girls fantasy sort of way. What better reason to move than the potential of Tessa's dream job of Dean of the Library at the supernatural only private school run by the Ellinghams?

Sebastian Ellingham, dour, serious and still hopelessly lost without Evangeline. When she comes back to town to give him his wish, he discovers that she hasn't changed at all, and is still selfish, spoiled, and well caustically demeaning. He still wants her back, and plans to do so in such a way that she will respect him ever after. His pride leads to a BIG lie, that he's moved on, and is engaged to another.

Deputy Blythe volunteers Tessa as the poor soul who will play Sebastian's betrothed as long as it comes with the dream job if she pulls it off well. Then the real fun begins. Our own Pride & Prejudice in Nocturne Falls. Seriously, Sebastian IS Mr Darcy {Swooning here}.

When the Ellinghams rally behind Sebastian, the variety of characters comes out in a colorful montage that gives light to just how talented an author Kristen really is. She brilliantly brings the characters to life, and ensures that a twisted tale of detours and speed-bumps ensures for all involved.

Tessa and Sebastian are my second favorite NF couple. Hugh and Delaney still occupy first place.

I have to give this story 5 stars because I can't give it more. Wonderfully written, charming and well just every book-geek-girls fantasy come true. Why oh why won't any rich guys give me a library????
We finally get to see the soft side of NF's prickliest vampire. I really enjoyed the depth of Sebastian's character and watching him shake free of the burdens he's put on himself. Tessa was an intriguing character, and it was neat to see where her desire for peacefulness came from. They make a great couple and it's good to see them find each other. Be sure to read the short story about them afterward.
As will all my reviews there are no spoilers and no story recap. The Vampire’s Fake Fiancé is written in the third person with no explicit language or sexual scenes and is a HEA. It can easily be read as a stand alone with or without reading the other books first.

This book is number 5 in Kristen Painter’s Nocturne Falls series. The Hero, Sebastian, is a secondary character in some of the other stories with a small indication of his past spoke about mostly in book one featuring his brother (The Vampire’s Mail Order Bride – check it out if you haven’t already!). The heroine, Tessa, was not in any of the past books, her sister is a secondary character in this book and some of the others.

The Vampire’s Fake Fiancé was engaging and fun. It was an incredible book. This story is magnificently told and pulls you in right from the start. The characters have consistency throughout the book and each new development brings out a little more of who they are.

The Vampire’s Fake Fiancé, like all of the Nocturne Falls stories, is vibrant and full of detail without being repetitive from the other books, so you can binge read the series (like so many of us do) without a ‘cut and paste’ feel to recreate the world in the new book.

One of the things I love about Kristen Painter’s books is there is no immature ‘won’t talk to each other’ or screaming and yelling with a misunderstanding until the last minute where everything is magically solved.

I highly recommend this book and all the others in the Nocturne Falls series.
